Building on the optimism I was feeling in my last post, last weekend saw brilliant sunshine and warmer temps, bringing with it the joy of catching up with three friends – in person (!!!) – in central London. It had been so long since I’d done this, that I felt a little giddy afterwards!
First stop on Saturday was a stroll along Southbank with one of my oldest friends, who is now expecting a baby. I’m so excited for this next chapter of her life, and seeing friends starting to buy property and start families just makes me so excited about the fact we’re at this stage of life.
We sat by the river for a couple of hours, catching up over churros and coffee. I couldn’t stop laughing after she suddenly grabbed her churros when she saw a policeman walking in our direction. “Does this count as a picnic, do you think they’ll take my churros??” she asked with panic in her voice. ððð
As if the police would take churros off a pregnant lady when literally everyone and their mother was out walking that day. It was too funny, if all else fails save the churros!
After she headed back home, I headed southeast, to meet another friend to explore Greenwich. I can’t believe I’ve lived in London my whole life and this was only my second time visiting Greenwich. If this pandemic has taught me anything, it’s that I need to make the most of exploring those parts of the city I always say I’ll get round to. That’s what I love about London, there’s always going to be so much more to see. ð
We explored the uni grounds and wandered along the river, chatting away about what we’ll do when lockdown is over and how wonderful it’s going to be…
…all the pubs we’re going to frequent…

We set up camp in Greenwich Park with a cheeky Nando’s we ordered to collect, and spent a couple of hours catching up and people-watching. There were so many people out, it definitely felt like the end of lockdown was upon us.
With the sun starting to set we headed up the hill to look out across the skyline in the golden hour light, listening to the 90s tunes someone was playing from a stereo.
We went home feeling so full, so happy to be back out in the city, so excited that we might be able to do this again soon.
The next day I headed to London Bridge to catch up with another friend, who in a few weeks will be moving out to the country. We meandered through Borough Market in search of coffee, picked up some drinks and doughnuts from my faves, Bread Ahead, and wandered along the river, chatting away about life and men and work.
We walked along the river until we started to feel the cold, and made our way back through Bermondsey, appreciating that we had been able to explore another little corner of London.
Spring may not be here quite yet, but it’s definitely coming. And this little Londoner headed back home content in the warmth of the tube, and with an inner smile that only time spent in the city with friends can bring.
