Brighter times pending ✨

I don’t know about you but I’ve been feeling more optimistic lately. Maybe it’s because the weather is starting to brighten (and warm) up or the increasing likelihood we could all be vaccinated before the end of July, giving me hope I might be able to get out the country to see my boyfriend in the next few months. πŸ™πŸ½

Last weekend I met a friend for a walk – the first friend I’ve seen since just after Christmas. That’s a long time, and I know for many people it’s been much longer. It was literally 1C outside, which roughly translates as layers y’all! We had just the loveliest day, full of laughter and weirdness, leaving you feeling the kind of warm fuzziness inside that can only come from being around someone who loves you unconditionally.

We met first at sunny Warwick Avenue for a brisk walk along the Grand Union Canal. We walked for hours in the cold, dodging those pesky last remnants of slush from when it snowed, clutching our coffees to stay warm and also trying not to fall into the canal when giving way to a cyclist. At the canal’s end, we crossed through Edgware road to join the Regent’s Canal, getting off to walk around the park. The cafe was open for takeaway so we got some lunch and hot drinks, which didn’t stay warm for long thanks to the merciless wind. When I tried to bite into my baguette, it was like it was frozen! And then this dog seemingly fell in love with me. It was all over in about 5 minutes, we never found out who her human was.

We ended up strolling through the pastel-hued delightful streets of Primrose Hill, stopping along the way to explore secluded mews and the bustling high street, taking pics of the pretty houses and wandering what it would be like to live here, before picking up some crΓͺpes to fuel us up as we headed back into the park.

We battled icy winds and cold tears of laughter as we clambered all the way up to the summit, where we sat on the ground and looked out over the city skyline. The London I love doesn’t exist right now; all the amazing restaurants, theatres, shops, cafes, museums, bars, they’re all dormant for the time being and have been for a while, and it’s made me think.

Have I taken full advantage of living in the city all these years? Was I living to the fullest? What about all those things I’ve been wanting to do but never got round to? Why haven’t I made the most of every weekend? Why was I so tired? When will I get another chance?
