It’s been a while, again. Since I last blogged the clocks have gone back and it starts to get dark around 4pm now, and we’re back in lockdown. No surprises there, I suppose. I found the news quite depressing at first, but I’m focusing on the positives now. I’ve been trying to make the most of this time, especially with working from home and mainly on night shifts, to enjoy the gift of not having to leave the house other than to get groceries, go for a run or meet a friend for a socially distanced walk. It’s been nice having an excuse to just stay in and get cosy and start thinking about Christmas.
With this new lockdown that could well be extended past December, it looks unlikely I’ll be getting any winter sun, so I’m determined to finish blogging the Corfu holiday I was so lucky to take in the first place.
I remember leaving the hotel and taking a left, instead of a right as we usually would to get to Kassiopi. Don’t ask me why but we followed my brother literally up the garden path – up ancient-looking steps, through overgrown pathways, sustaining many of minor scratch along the way, all in the heat of midday, past incredible villas with sprawling pools and balconies, up and up and up until, inevitably, he realised we had gone the wrong way.
This is why we don’t listen to men. ð
Everyone including the neighbours couldn’t quite believe we had walked for so long away from the sea, but we laughed off the pain and did the swiftest about turn. Eventually we found our way.
The first thing we did was eat! All that misguided exploring had built up quite the appetite, so we nestled in at Cavo Barbaro – I had delicious stuffed peppers again.
And spent the rest of the day in the lapping waters of Avlaki beach, a wide expansive bay with pebbles near enough comfortable to walk or sit on along with stretches of sand to boot.

I do miss those Ionian sunsets.
