I fully meant to post every week, and now four have passed and I’m not even sure what happened you know. ð How is everyone finding this lockdown? I’ve definitely found it – and I hate to say it – the most boring yet, like bored in the house just doesn’t cut it! I’ve had some time off work here and there and I’ve literally not known what to do with myself a lot of the time. January absolutely flew by, but at the same time each day dragged on for what felt like a week.
But we have to celebrate the little victories, so here are some of mine that have kept me going in these freezing housebound times. A whole ten years after the rest of the country, I discovered the joys and delights of Downton Abbey. It was such a magical watch. I’ve finished the whole thing now and I’m still not over Lady Sybil, she went way too soon. ð
I made mac and cheese from scratch for the first time. I followed Josie’s festive recipe – I didn’t have dried cranberries so I just drizzled some surplus Christmas cranberry sauce all over it at the end – and it was delicious. I used 50% parmesan and 50% mature cheddar and literally couldn’t move after, which suited me fine as all I was up to was watching Downton anyway!
It reminded me of when I used to stay at my yiya’s house and she would make me macaroni and grate cheddar or halloumi on top while the pasta was still hot so it melted. ðĪĪ
I had a brainwave and have started tie dye-ing everything. It’s great fun! Here’s one I made for a certain gentleman whose favourite colour is purple. ð
I’ve ordered lots of different colour dyes so this will be a hobby I keep going for sure!
It’s also been a great few weeks for catching up with friends. I feel like the pandemic has created a sort of pod mentality – like we know who of our loved ones are in our pod, who we keep in touch with regularly. Everyone else outside our pod is still dear to us, but there’s more of a sense that everyone is carrying on and trying to get through and we’ll catch up properly when all this is over.
My friends and I have revived weekend Zoom drinks, which we did a lot at the start of the pandemic. It died down a bit when we were getting to see each other in person a bit more, so I’m glad they’re back now. Plus my little prosecco bottle has been upcycled into a lovely new home for my bunny tails.
And last but not least, after watching hours of tutorials and reading dozens of blogs about best methods and researching ingredients, I whipped up a beautiful body butter from scratch! And I’m so pleased with how it turned out. Just look at how floofy ð
I’ve been looking for a good side hustle for the longest and I’m so impressed with how this turned out that I might start selling these in the near future, so stay tuned. That should keep me busy for the next few months!
Lots of love, Lucy x
