Life’s a Brač

I’m writing this on a very chilly morning at my fiancé’s place in New Orleans. I arrived yesterday evening to a bouquet of flowers, a trip to Felipe’s for a much-needed burrito and the beginning of a search for Halloween costumes. This trip was so spontaneous, and I’ve found recently that some of the best decisions I’ve ever made have come down to spontaneity. Not in a reckless sense, but in wanting to make the most out of every situation.

That was very much the vibe back on our Croatia trip last month. We couldn’t really plan ahead as the weather forecast kept changing, so when we were confronted with an unexpectedly warm and sunny day, we thought why not make the most of it by hopping on the ferry to the island of Brač – there happened to be a ferry leaving in something like 20 minutes, so we bought our tickets and went for it.

The ferry ride from Split took around 50 minutes.

Less than an hour from Split, we had the most chilled day on Brač, exploring the harbour in Supetar, picking up some souvenirs, and wandering over to Acapulco beach.

With its crystal clear water and cracking mountain views, I wasted no time throwing myself into the blue.

And spent the next few hours thanking my lucky stars that I was here.

We spent ages swanning around in the surf. The sea was chilly at this time of year, as it was nowhere near as hot during the day as it is during the summer, but it was fine once I was in, then the issue was getting me out 🥰

There was another beach we wanted to visit while we were there, so we headed to a nearby beach bar to dry off and call an Uber.

The lovely man who arrived to take us to Lovrečina bay told us he was the only Uber on the whole island! We knew we would only stay for around 30 minutes as we had to catch the ferry back to Split, so we asked if he could collect us, little did we know he would stick around and wait for us in his car til we were ready to go 🥺

It gave us the perfect amount of time to enjoy the feel of the sand beneath our feet and peaceful tranquility of the beach, which we had mostly to ourselves save for a German woman trying to convince her dog to join her on her paddleboard 😂

We made it back to Supetar with enough time for an ice-cold glass of Karlovačko before getting back on the ferry. Such a peaceful and enjoyable day, and one that will live long in the memory. 🤍
